A scientific partnership for rice mapping

GeoRice is a consortium between The Centre d’Etudes Spatiales de la BIOsphère and GlobEO working to develop innovative algorithms for rice monitoring using Sentinel-1.

The Centre d’Etudes Spatiales de la BIOsphère – CESBIO – is a centre for research and education in Remote Sensing of the Biosphere created in January 1995. The Centre conducts research in the field of observation and modeling of the continental surfaces, addresses the interface between physical and biological sciences, and develops processing, analysis and modelling of remote sensing data, leading to applications. CESBIO belongs to four parent institutions, including the Université Toulouse III Paul Sabatier (UPS), which is responsible for the financial management of the projects in which CESBIO is involved. CESBIO has a total number of teaching staff and researchers of about 120.

Prime leader of the GeoRice project, the team has a strong background in project management and scientific development in SAR scattering of land surfaces and applications in forestry and agriculture. They have been involved in numerous studies for EU, ESA, NASA, JAXA, CNES and national organisations on the use of SAR in monitoring land surfaces

The goal of GlobEO is to provide services in the field of vegetation monitoring, mainly based on Earth Observation data available globally with short time revisit at 10 meters resolution. GlobEO also provides capacity building in radar remote sensing from image processing to thematic applications.
